What might happen to wildlife because of COVID-19

The pandemic also puts wildlife at risk, and not just humans.

According to an article written by Jennifer Huizen, there might be an increase of natural resource exploitation, such as unlicensed logging and the illegal wildlife market, due to the economic difficulties caused by the pandemic. People, especially in low income nations, may be forced to commit such actions in order to make a living. In Brazil and Philippines, there is already a rise in illegal fishing rates. Additionally, organizations that rely on human visitors to feed animals (such as zoos) are facing extreme lows. The plastic wastes accumulating in our oceans are also contributing to wildlife deaths by animals ingesting or being trapped by them. This shows that as the pandemic continues, the death toll of animals will continue to rise.
